Suicide Risk Factors

  • One or more prior suicide attempts

  • Family history of a mental disorder or substance abuse

  • Family history of suicide

  • Family violence

  • Physical or sexual abuse

  • Keeping firearms in the home

  • Chronic physical illness, including chronic pain

  • Exposure to suicidal behavior of others

  • Alcohol or substance abuse problem

  • Clinical depression

Warnings Signs

  • Changing sleeping and/or eating habits - that gets worse

  • Losing interest or withdrawing from things one used to care about 

  • Making comments about being hopeless and having no reason to live

  • Talking about being a burden

  • Talking about guilt and and feeling trapped

  • Putting affairs in order and tying up lose ends

  • Saying things like "it would be better if I wasn't here" or "I want out"

  • Sudden mood swings

  • Talking about suicide or about a specific plan

Survivors of suicide loss support group are peer led            support groups that can help you feel less alone and more understood by others who have also experienced a loss to suicide. Any adult (18 yrs or older) who has lost a friend, family member or loved one to suicide is welcome to attend.
